A Sophisticatedly Green Halloween

Halloween is tough, especially if you have a little one.  Do you spend $30 or $40 on a costume that will only be worn for pictures or do you go with your "not so dream" costume just to be practical?  Here are some tips I have learned...

  • Wait until close to Halloween (think week of) to get a real "deal" on a costume.
  • Re-sell last year's costume on Ebay, Craigslist, or in a Consignment shop to help pay for this year's costume.
  • If you are crafty, use your skills; but be cognisant of the time it will take.
  • Look on sites like Craigslist or Ebay to purchase your child's next costume at a reduced price.
  • Shop outlet and discount stores like Children's Place Outlet, Pottery Barn Kids Outlet, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx.
  • Trade with friends to re-use costumes.
  • Check out online coupons and sales to find a good deal.
  • Shop right after Halloween for next year's costume.
Whatever you decide to do, remember this is a fun holiday and the costume is only worn for a day.  Figure out your values in advance and weigh them against price, practicality, and age.  Have fun and enjoy this memorable holiday in the way only a sophisticatedly green mom can!
